Economic development requires university-industry interaction

For economic development, Kosovo needs university-industry interaction. This was said on Thursday at a round table on “Higher education institutions in line with the requirements of the regional and international labor market”, held at the University of Mitrovica “Isa Boletini”, organized by the Faculty of Economics.

At this roundtable where the rectors of public universities, government officials, businessmen, etc., the Dean of the Faculty of Economics at Isa Boletini University in Mitrovica, Besart Hajrizi, said that priority should be given to entrepreneurial universities related to the developmental reality of the university. industry. “Kosovo needs a university-industry cooperation framework, while the development of curricula that link the university to entrepreneurship remains a challenge,” he said.

Whereas, Hajriz Koci, Advisor to the Minister of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Besim Beqaj, spoke about the commitments that are being undertaken in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship in Kosovo. According to him, the world is moving fast in the digital age, while Kosovo is making efforts to use innovation for economic growth. “The economy must be put to the function of global trends,” he said.

The Rector of Isa Boletini University in Mitrovica, Alush Musaj, considered the cooperation between universities and industry extremely important. He said Isa Boletini University cooperates with a large number of public and private companies in the country, offering internships for students. In this context, he also stressed the need to open an innovation center at this university with the support of the Ministry of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Ylber Januzaj, lecturer at Isa Boletini University, raised the need for a new model of cooperation between universities and industry in order to prepare the necessary frameworks for the labor market. “There are 400 study programs offered in Kosovo, but the problem lies in the mismatch with the labor market. There is a need for a co-operation model for curriculum development in order to prepare relevant staff ”.
