History of the development of the Faculty of Food Technology

The history of the development of the Faculty of Food Technology is related to the opening of the Technical High School, 1961. In this school, the study programs were as below: technology, metallurgy and mining. The studies lasted two years. In 1970, within the Technical Faculty of Prishtina, the branches of Technology, Mining and Metallurgy were opened, initially in Mitrovica, academic year 1970/71, and then continued in Prishtina until the establishment of the Faculty of Mining and Metallurgy in Mitrovica, 1974.

From the academic year 2001/2002, at the Faculty of Mining and Metallurgy, studies are organized according to the Bologna Declaration at both levels, Bachelor and Master. On 31.05.2013, the Assembly of Kosovo ratified the decision for the establishment of the University of Mitrovica. On the basis of the Faculty of Mining and Metallurgy (Geosciences and Technology) two new Faculties were established, the Faculty of Food Technology and the Faculty of Geosciences. At the Faculty of Food Technology, the study is organized in two levels, Bachelor and Master. Study programs are accredited by the Kosovo Accreditation Agency for the period October 1, 2019 – September 30, 2022.

Four study programs have been accredited. At the Bachelor’s degree program, “Technology” with the specializations “Environmental Engineering” and “Chemical Engineering”, and the other program “Engineering and Food Technology”. At the Master level are also accredited two study programs, “Technology” with specializations “Chemical Engineering” and “Environmental Protection Engineering”, the other program “Engineering and Food Technology”.
